Module Brief:
Authorship and who has the power to fix meaning in communication is one of the most contested areas within Graphic Design.
Add to this the impact of digital technology and it's interactive implications and you have a dynamic and contemporary field of study. In this module you will explore both the theory and practice that make up this subject area.
Expected outcomes:
- Write a short academic essay on the subject. (2000 words)
- Produce a piece of design work exploring the same ideas.
Assessment criteria:
- - Research (your hotglue website)
- - Documentation of process: coherent record of actions and investigations of range of ideas and practices
- - Analysis of ideas: evidence of critical engagement and exploration of a variety of ideas informed by the application and understanding of theory/practice dynamic
- - Analysis of design practice: evidence of detailed examination of a variety of examples of contemporary design practice
- - Presentation: evidence of articulation and understanding of intersections of interaction and authorship as employed in your actions and outcomes
- - Final outcome (hotglue documentation of development of your project and separate prototype - any format)
- - Concept: does the work successfully address ideas and themes explored in the module
- - Accomplish: levels of successful realisation of design concept
- - Media: choice of and competence in the use of media employed
